—New software makes mashup creation easier than ever—
Mixed In Key has released Mashup (mashup.mixedinkey.com) for Windows and Mac OS X, a new software application that lets you quickly and easily beatmatch two or more audio files, edit them, and save your results to a new audio file. Mashup uses Mixed In Key 5’s harmonic algorithm to find compatible songs, and makes the process of mashup creation incredibly easy. “Our goal was to design software that could help you create a mashup in five minutes or less,” says Mixed In Key’s president Yakov Vorobyev. “We think that mashup creation should be easier than it is with Ableton Live.”
Mashup’s user interface is streamlined and intuitive. Import songs into Mashup, and it will analyze them for key and tempo. Next, drag a song into Mashup’s ultra-fast audio editor, and its tempo will become the master for the project. If you’d prefer, you can manually enter in a different master tempo. As soon as one song is added, the song browser will show you which other songs in your collection are 100% harmonically compatible with your original song. Then drag other songs into the editor window, and they’re automatically beat-matched to the master tempo, using Mashup’s professional time-stretching algorithm.
Now you can start editing. Mashup lets you graphically edit each song’s volume, as well as three bands of EQ, all with breakpoint-style automation. The editor also lets you select and silence portions of songs, adjust phase, slide them in time, and more. When you’re done editing, you can export the result to a 320kbps MP3 file or a 16-bit, 44.1kHz WAV file.
If you already use Mixed In Key 5, Mashup will load its database and will skip the analysis step. Mashup and Mixed In Key 5 work flawlessly with each other.
Mashup is available for $39 and comes with free updates until Version 2.99.

—Sasha Soundlab offers samples and instruments direct from the legendary DJ—
AudioRaiders announced the release of Sasha Soundlab, a unique library of samples and software instruments for DJs, dance-music producers, and composers. The AudioRaiders team spent weeks listening to sounds in Sasha’s studio, and the result is this surprisingly affordable collection, which contains over 4,000 individual sounds. Included are lead, pad and stab synths; synth basses, drum and percussion kits, customizable loops and grooves and custom effects banks. Sasha Soundlab is the first product to capture the soul of one of dance music’s most iconic producers.
“It’s definitely a treasure trove,” says Sasha. “You can produce a record from top to bottom with it. You can make your beats in it—you can do everything from within this Soundlab.”
There are an astounding 220 fully customizable software instruments in Sasha Soundlab. The instruments all sampled from vintage analog synthesizers—some quite rare—and custom programmed by Sasha, himself. Included are 20 analog basses, processed through tube gear to give them maximum depth and punch; 26 classic synths; and seven stab and chord banks, featuring over 152 of Sasha’s signature sounds.
You also get 69 drum-and-percussion sample banks, comprised of over 950 individual hits. Pre-compressed and production ready, the samples include kicks, hi-hats, toms, percussion and glitches. In addition, over 100 loop instruments are provided, featuring not just drums and percussion, but also rhythmic beds, bass, and heavenly melodic phrases. All of the loop instruments are spread over an octave so they can be easily played in any key.
To top it off, the Soundlab lets you tap into Sasha’s prodigious effects collection, with 11 custom FX banks, containing over 400 stunning, boutique effects that utilize guitar pedals, circuit bent toys and a wide range of processors. The sonic possibilities are endless.
Sasha Soundlab is the first product of AudioRaiders’ Soundlab Series, with more sound collections, from other influential artists and producers, to come.
Sasha Soundlab is available now for $99.
DJ Sasha Video:
AudioRaiders was founded by a team of DJs and producers who’ve performed all over the world, released tracks on influential labels and shared the stage with the biggest acts in dance music. When they’re not on the road, they’re in the studio working on tracks and remixes. The mission of AudioRaiders is to break down barriers so that users can access the sounds, studios and secrets of influential artists. The recording and performing experience of the AudioRaiders team has given them access to the studios and sounds of a range of influential musicians and producers. When putting together products for the Soundlab series, the team spends weeks in an artist’s studio, sorting through hours of audio files and hand-picking the best ones. Once the sounds have been chosen, they’re brought to AudioRaiders’ Los Angeles-based development team, who spend many long nights making sure the samples are properly sliced and balanced. Then they use the power of the Native Instruments Kontakt engine to incorporate each sound into a customizable software instrument. Find out more at www.audioraiders.com.

Three new Creator Series ReFills bring renowned rock and punk producer's drum sounds into the hands of any musician
What do Megadeth, Jay-Z, Alice Cooper, Gladys Knight, NOFX, Lagwagon, No Use For a Name, Patty La Belle, Tower of Power have in common with Rock Band and Guitar Hero? Legendary punk rock producer and mixer Ryan Greene. And now anyone can be on that list, with three new drum ReFills featuring Ryan Greene’s signature sound. Propellerhead today released the latest installments in its ReFill Creator Series: Ryan Greene Alt Drums.
Ryan Greene Alt Drums comes as three separate volumes, each containing three drum kits with several microphone setups and alternate snares. Each of the three ReFills comes with preset patches for Reason's Combinator device, with three different microphone setups: close mics, no ambience mics, and all mics; Producer Combinator patches with dry, overhead, and room microphone setups; Individual Kit Pieces for the NN-XT sampler; effects patches; as well as 100+ drum track MIDI files created by Ryan Greene. The sounds are fully produced; finished drum kits with kick drums with big bottom and snare drums with punch. Thanks to the premade patches using different microphone setups and production techniques, no additional mixing is required from users to get a great sound that sits right in the mix.
“All the sounds have been tested in real applications throughout the recording process to make sure they hold up under heavy fire, which basically means up against huge guitar and bass sounds,” says Ryan Greene.
Ryan Greene Alt Drums ReFills Series:
- Alt Drums I
The first Alt Drums ReFill features Ryan Greene’s own Pork Pie kit, used on a lot of Greene’s Punk/Fat Wreck Chords productions throughout the years, as well as a versatile Gretsch kit and a deep sounding vintage Leedy kit. An additional three snares are included, ranging from classic rock sound to heavier punk.
- Alt Drums II
The star of the Alt Drums II ReFill is a 1964 Ludwig Liverpool kit — recorded and produced as if it was played by the Mötley Crüe, bringing a sound like no other. This pack also has a vintage Leedy kit customized by the John Covington and a Tama kit played by Troy Luccketta of the band Tesla. Added are three more snare drums, including a Leedy from the 1890’s (!)
- Alt Drums III
For Alt Drums III Troy Luccketta from multi-platinum rock band Tesla played a one of a kind Camco kit. The aggressive and warm sound of this kit built in 1956, and all the power that Troy brings when he hits a drum makes it a go-to kit for punk and rock productions. Included are also a wooden Ayotte kit, and a big and powerful Leedy kit with a 28-inch kick drum. Three extra snare drums come with the pack, among them the rare Yamaha Vinnie Colaiuta, and the Dave Weckl signature model.
Pricing and Availability
Ryan Greene Alt Drums Volume I, II and III are available immediately exclusively as downloads from the Propellerhead online shop for $99.00 USD and €89.00 EUR (including VAT) each.

—New version of harmonic-mixing DJ software adds multi-core support, on-screen audio player, multiple-key recognition, key detection of samples, and more—
Mixed In Key is pleased to announce the release of Mixed In Key 5, the latest version of its harmonic-mixing software that’s used by world-class DJs like David Guetta, Pete Tong, and Kaskade. Mixed In Key 5 quickly and accurately identifies the keys and tempos of digital music files, making it easy for DJs to create mashups and play perfect DJ sets. Version 5 offers new features and functions, as well as a powerful new key-detection algorithm.
“Mixed In Key 5 is the professional DJ’s choice for harmonic mixing,” says Yakov Vorobyev, President of Mixed In Key. “It’s a powerful DJ tool that connects with your favorite DJ software and DJ hardware, and makes it possible to mix harmonically regardless of your medium.”
Mixed In Key 5 offers multi-processor support for both Mac and Windows machines, allowing the software to take full advantage of the blazing speeds possible on multicore CPUs. Another highlight is the new Audio Player, which lets users audition the key-detected songs and samples from within the software. In addition to existing support for MP3 and WAV file formats, Mixed In Key 5 adds M4A and MP4 (video file) support.
The new key-detection algorithm provides enhanced levels of accuracy and sophistication, and can detect key changes within songs. Key changes are clearly shown in the waveform display of the Audio Player, allowing users to see, at a glance, where in the song the change occurs. Whereas the key detection in previous versions looked at a song-file as a single entity, the new algorithm analyzes it as a series of beat-aligned segments. This ability to analyze short audio files means that remixers and producers can use Mixed In Key when working with sample and loop libraries, making it easier to find files in the same key.
As with previous versions, Mixed In Key 5 uses the “Camelot Wheel” system, which displays key names on a circular chart that is numbered and color-coded. This approach makes harmonic mixing easier by graphically showing which songs are compatible with each other. In version 5, a clickable Camelot Wheel offers an elegant new way to see key-detected material. Once the software has analyzed a collection of songs (for example, an iTunes library), clicking on a key name on the Camelot Wheel instantly brings up a list of all the files in that key, making song selection a snap.
With its powerful new feature set, Mixed In Key 5 is more essential than ever when used alongside your main DJ software. “We love when people use Mixed In Key with Traktor, CD-Js, Serato Scratch Live, and all other DJ and sequencer apps,” says Vorobyev. “It works perfectly with them, and takes your DJ sets to the next level.”
Mixed In Key 5 for Windows and Mac OS X is available from HYPERLINK "http://www.mixedinkey.com" www.mixedinkey.com for $58. The upgrade from previous versions costs $29.99.
