Mixed In Key “Mashup” Software Helps You Create Mashups In Minutes
—New software makes mashup creation easier than ever—
Mixed In Key has released Mashup (mashup.mixedinkey.com) for Windows and Mac OS X, a new software application that lets you quickly and easily beatmatch two or more audio files, edit them, and save your results to a new audio file. Mashup uses Mixed In Key 5’s harmonic algorithm to find compatible songs, and makes the process of mashup creation incredibly easy. “Our goal was to design software that could help you create a mashup in five minutes or less,” says Mixed In Key’s president Yakov Vorobyev. “We think that mashup creation should be easier than it is with Ableton Live.”
Mashup’s user interface is streamlined and intuitive. Import songs into Mashup, and it will analyze them for key and tempo. Next, drag a song into Mashup’s ultra-fast audio editor, and its tempo will become the master for the project. If you’d prefer, you can manually enter in a different master tempo. As soon as one song is added, the song browser will show you which other songs in your collection are 100% harmonically compatible with your original song. Then drag other songs into the editor window, and they’re automatically beat-matched to the master tempo, using Mashup’s professional time-stretching algorithm.
Now you can start editing. Mashup lets you graphically edit each song’s volume, as well as three bands of EQ, all with breakpoint-style automation. The editor also lets you select and silence portions of songs, adjust phase, slide them in time, and more. When you’re done editing, you can export the result to a 320kbps MP3 file or a 16-bit, 44.1kHz WAV file.
If you already use Mixed In Key 5, Mashup will load its database and will skip the analysis step. Mashup and Mixed In Key 5 work flawlessly with each other.

AudioRaiders announced the release of Sasha Soundlab, a unique library of samples and software instruments for DJs, dance-music producers, and composers. The AudioRaiders team spent weeks listening to sounds in Sasha’s studio, and the result is this surprisingly affordable collection, which contains over 4,000 individual sounds. Ryan Greene Alt Drums comes as three separate volumes, each containing three drum kits with several microphone setups and alternate snares. Each of the three ReFills comes with preset patches for Reason's Combinator device, with three different microphone setups: close mics, no ambience mics, and all mics; Producer Combinator patches with dry, overhead, and room microphone setups; Individual Kit Pieces for the NN-XT sampler; effects patches; as well as 100+ drum track MIDI files created by Ryan Greene. The sounds are fully produced; finished drum kits with kick drums with big bottom and snare drums with punch. Thanks to the premade patches using different microphone setups and production techniques, no additional mixing is required from users to get a great sound that sits right in the mix.
“All the sounds have been tested in real applications throughout the recording process to make sure they hold up under heavy fire, which basically means up against huge guitar and bass sounds,” says Ryan Greene.

The aggressive and warm sound of this kit built in 1956, and all the power that Troy brings when he hits a drum makes it a go-to kit for punk and rock productions. Included are also a wooden Ayotte kit, and a big and powerful Leedy kit with a 28-inch kick drum. Three extra snare drums come with the pack, among them the rare Yamaha Vinnie Colaiuta, and the Dave Weckl signature model.

making it easier to find files in the same key.
As with previous
versions, Mixed In Key 5 uses the “Camelot Wheel” system, which displays key
names on a circular chart that is numbered and color-coded. This approach makes
harmonic mixing easier by graphically showing which songs are compatible with
each other. In version 5, a clickable
Camelot Wheel offers an elegant new way to see key-detected material. Once the
software has analyzed a collection of songs (for example, an iTunes library),
clicking on a key name on the Camelot Wheel instantly brings up a list of all
the files in that key, making song selection a snap.
With its
powerful new feature set, Mixed In Key 5 is more essential than ever when used
